The first Diversity Event “Diversity, the Future of Higher Education 2019,” was held on November 21, 2019 at the Global conference room located at the Centennial memorial Samsung Hall. Through this event, the Diversity Council wanted to share with the KU constituents that ‘diversity’ is an essential social value of our time. The value of diversity is extremely important in a university because it is a place where people with diverse biological, social, cultural, and psychological characteristics come together to think about the future and the path for humanity. The Council tried to find the answers for the following questions throughout the event:

Why is diversity the urgent priority in higher education?
How has the history and on-campus culture of Korea University been taking

on diversity?
What has a university to do to create and encourage more heterogeneous

workplace and research environment?

This event consisted of three important presentations on diversity education, organizational culture, and the current status of diversity at Korea University. Following the presentations, a dialogue on the theme “Promoting the Diversity Council” was held between Roe Jung-Hye, the  President of the National Research Foundation of Korea, and Sung Young-Shin, honorary professor of the Department of Psychology at KU. Besides the main conference, a variety of events such as the diversity photo contest, diversity video screening, and dinner banquet. created the atmosphere into a festive mood. While Chung Jin Taek, the President of Korea University, and Hong Ki-Sun, the Chairman of Seoul National University’s Diversity Council delivered congratulatory remarks, a total of 140 KU members attended the event and displayed their interest in the values of diversity.
